Some have called us work-out fiends, and it might be true. We love sports and in college we played fastpitch softball. But our competitive fastpitch career ended a few months ago and now we’ve been forced to find a new outlet for our competitive edge and a fun way to exercise. We’ve gotten into running, strenghtening exercises, and even yoga (as of last week). Needless to say we are still very active and need something delicious and packed with protein to keep us fueled! Smoothies are our go-to post work-out snack.
Our chocolate coffee protein shake tastes like an iced mocha…and it’s healthy! The chocolate kick comes from the chocolate whey protein powder, which is tasty and also great for muscle recovery. The inspiration for this smoothie came from the left-over coffee we had made in the morning and so we decided to add it to the smoothie (the fact that there was left-over coffee obviously meant that we had not had our coffee fill for the day and needed more). Coffee after a work-out may sound crazy to you as it tends to dehyrdate, but we only used a small amount (and we drank lots of water to rehyrdate). The banana and Greek yogurt made the smoothie extra thick and creamy, and with dash of nutmeg sprinkled on top it was the perfect post work-out treat. Happy double dipping!
As always, serves 2
- 2 scoops chocolate whey protein powder
- 1 medium banana
- ¼ teaspoon coffee grounds
- ¼ cup coffee
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- About 8 ice cubes
- Dash of nutmeg sprinkled on top
Just combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until fully mixed and smooth. Pour in a glass and enjoy!
